Yes, simply a great idea to re-issue WFG’s two classic albums in this box! Containing “Death Penalty” and “Friends of Hell” on LP’s, as well as a huge booklet with lots of photos and articles from back in the day. Already an owner of the originals, I simply needed to get this. If anyone reading this doesn’t know this band, they existed in the early 80’s and was a part of a wave of UK bands playing heavy metal. Unlike their contemporaries they did not take inspiration from DEEP PURPLE, JUDAS PRIEST or RUSH, but instead was as close to sounding like BLACK SABBATH as it could get. Many years later a band like PAGAN ALTAR was brought out from obscurity and is now known as sounding like they do, but WFG was the originals! I would not claim this band is better than PENTAGRAM and that their albums are as classic as TROUBLE’s first LP. But they were British and that combined with the not to be taken very seriously image and SABBATH inspiration, is what makes them totally great. So take some LSD or grab a beer, and doom out to “Death Penalty” and “Friends of Hell”. Reviewed by Martin B. |
